Known For

The 'bonding hormone'. Promotes social bonding, trust, anxiety reduction, and intimacy. Also has roles in wound healing, anti-inflammation, and stress reduction. Nasal spray is the most common delivery.

Mechanism of Action

"Love hormone" — naturally produced during bonding, birth, breastfeeding. Promotes social bonding, trust, uterine contraction, milk ejection.

Body vs. External Supply

🔴 Exogenous (replaces natural)

Brand / Trade Names

Pitocin® (IV, labor induction) Syntocinon® (nasal spray, some countries) Manufacturer: Various

Typical Research Dosage

Intranasal: 20-40 IU (typically 1-2 sprays per nostril). SubQ: 5-20 IU. Used before social situations or intimacy.

Vial Duration Guide

Dosing in IU varies by concentration. 2mg vial provides many doses at typical intranasal amounts.

Recommended Vial Size

★ 2mg vials Small doses (IU-level). 2mg = many doses. Oxytocin is fragile — smaller vials = fresher. 5 and 10mg risk degradation.

Time to Effects

EARLY: 15-30 minutes FULL: Single dose On-demand compound similar to PT-141. 15-30 min post-administration: Increased feelings of warmth, bonding, trust, reduced anxiety. Duration: 1-3 hours for acute effects. Intranasal onset is faster (15 min) than SubQ (30 min). Effects are felt from first dose. No loading required. Some report cumulative anxiety-reduction benefits with regular use over 2-4 weeks.

Contraindications & Do Not Combine

⚠️ ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATION in pregnancy — oxytocin induces uterine contractions and can cause premature labour No strict contraindications with other peptides on this list.

Common Side Effects

Nausea, headache, intranasal irritation, uterine cramping (women), ⚠️ water intoxication/hyponatremia at high IV doses (Pitocin obstetric use)

Drug Interactions

Prostaglandins (synergistic uterine contraction), SSRIs (may enhance effect), vasopressin analogs

Reversibility

Fully reversible — very short-acting
